Overview of home screen layout

(1) Universal tools

  • Te Rito Harakeke (1)

Clicking the Harakeke takes users back to the home screen


  • My Messages (2)

Instant message feature that allows teachers to easily have conversations with students, parents, or anyone else that they are connected to. Group messages to multiple people can be sent. Addresses sync from official systems.

  • My Calendar (3)

Consolidation of class, group and school calendar events are shown in a user’s personal calendar.

  • My Launchpad (4)

Contains useful links and resources posted by schools, regions and the Ministry.

  • My Notifications (5)

Notifications within the Te Rito platform. Users can also be notified by email and text message.

  • Analytics Dashboard (6)

Authorized users, such as principals and learning support co-coordinators, have access to analytics capabilities which enable educators to find trends in achievement data and identify at-risk students. 

  • My Personal folder (7)

A place where teachers can create and save lessons, quizzes, tests, and more for future use. Personal folder items can be copied and pasted to different locations (e.g., classes) when needed.

(2) Organisations 


Displays all organisations the user is a member of. In this example Cara is a teacher at Somewhere College, the school is a part of the Integrated Schools Community of Learning (COL). The school and COL are a member of Northern Bays, which is a Ministry level membership.

(3) Classes 


Displays all Classes that a teacher teaches. Classes are populated and setup by the student management system.

(4) Applications 

Where unique applications that have been built for Te Rito users appear.

- Badges (Optional)

A Badge group awards and tracks certifications and badges for staff and students. As soon as someone has one badge, the badges panel appears. If they are removed from the only badge group they are part of, the badges panel is removed from their home screen as well.

(5) Search Bar 

Search for groups, people, posts, and documents.

(6) News River

The News River collates news from all news streams of the different organisations a user is a member of, such as school and region news streams. Scroll to navigate through the River. Click an article to view the full text. Attachments can be viewed or downloaded from either the desktop browser or a mobile device

Authorized users can post to the River for the different communities. For example, teachers and students can post within the school news stream, if the post is approved by the authorized moderator then the post becomes visible to all staff, students, and parents of the school.

(7) My Groups 

Displays all groups a user is a member of.

(8) You Might Like… 

Shows groups that you may be interested in joining based on the current groups you are a member of and your interests.

A list of groups that you are not already a member of can be found by clicking More Groups at the top right of the You might like… panel.

(9) Recent Activity 

A summary of updates or recent activity within the Te Rito platform.

(10) Analytics Dashboard

(11) User Info 

Clicking the Home button takes users back to the home screen. The drop-down arrow beside the name and image of the account holder provides access to the user’s Profile, Settings, and Archives.

(12) Personal Calendar 

Shows a consolidation of class, group and school calendar events.

(13) School Zoom 

Summary of information about the school the teacher teaches at. Shows the students, parents of students, and classes that the teacher teaches.
